Milkco Mini Colostrum Collection Kit
The Milkco Mini Colostrum Collection Kit helps you get started with your antenatal expressing. The mini kit contains all the equipment you need to collect your colostrum and freeze it ready for post natal use.
For too long, mums wanting to express prenatally had to gather their own supplies. It could be hard to the right size syringes and even harder to find caps.
All you need in one mini kit
Now you can have all you need to commence your expressing in a conveniently put together kit. The mini kit is great for getting started or if you have to be away from home during the last few weeks of pregnancy. It’s perfect if you had thought about expressing colostrum but weren’t sure if it was for you.
Colostrum collection tools make expressing easy
You will love the detail that Milkco has put into this kit. The syringes are easily identifiable from other syringes with their stunning purple colour. The labels are sized perfectly for the syringe and made from waterproof materials so they won’t accidentally tear off once frozen.
The kit contains two reusable zip lock bags that are perfect for freezing your collected colostrum and transporting it with you to hospital. Once you have used your colostrum, you can continue to reuse these bags for a variety of things including food storage or even as a handy make-up bag.
What’s in the mini colostrum collection kit?
In your Mini Colostrum Collection Kit you will find:
- 3 x 1ml sterile oral tip syringes with ENfit compatible connector
- 2 x 2.5 ml sterile oral tip syringe wit ENfit compatible connector
- 3 x 5ml EnFit enteral sterile syringes
- 8 x sterile syringe caps
- 1 x measured collection container with lid
- Waterproof syringe labels
- Two resealable freezer storage bags
To assist with colostrum collection you might like to add a Colostrum Collector Attachment to your kit. The collectors provide a wider mouth to express into when connected to the syringe.
When should I start collecting colostrum?
Generally, you may commence expressing at 36 weeks gestation, but before expressing and storing colostrum antenatally it is important to discuss this with your health care provider/s to ensure it is a good option for you and your pregnancy. For more information on expressing colostrum read our resource page Antenatally Expressing Colostrum.
Which colostrum kit should I buy?
If you aren’t sure which is the right colostrum kit for you, here a few tips to help.
If this is your first pregnancy and you don’t have any pregnancy related issues, then this mini-kit is probably the best option for you. It will provide you with enough to get started and store your precious gold.
If this is a second or subsequent pregnancy, you have experienced pregnancy complications (and have medical clearance to express pre-natally), or have breastfed before, then you might be better off with one of our larger kits. The larger kits allow you to collect more colostrum which might be needed if you are producing a lot or if you need to collect more as a precaution for post natal feeding.
The earlier you start expressing, the bigger the kit you will need as your supply will increase each day. Each person is different, but for myself in my second pregnancy, I was able to fill 2 x 3 ml syringes every day for the last two weeks of expressing. And you if are like me, you will love the purple syringes included in the MilkCo Colostrum kits!
